Copper Price (Glossary / Charts)

Due to its high electrical conductivity, copper (see Battery raw material copper) is the most important metal in electrical engineering; more than half of the total copper production is used in this sector. Copper is mainly used in battery technology as an electricity conductor and less frequently as material for electrodes.

Like nearly all base and precious metals, the copper price has in recent years been affected by the dramatic fluctuations that result from a complex interrelationship between different factors – for instance the strongly increasing demand from China and India, a general scarcity of raw materials, producers' lack of flexibility in response to changed demand situations and speculative flight from investors in the raw materials markets.
