Lead (see Battery raw material lead) is a bluish-grey, very soft and ductile heavy metal. In battery technology it is used above all for the plates in lead batteries, usually in the form of lead-antimony or lead-calcium-tin alloys.
Like practically all base and precious metals, the lead price has in recent years been affected by the sometimes dramatic fluctuations that result from a complex interrelationship between different factors for instance the strongly increasing demand from China and India, a general scarcity of raw materials, producers' lack of flexibility in response to changed demand situations and speculative flight from investors in the raw materials markets.
