Nickel Price (Glossary / Charts)

Nickel (see Battery raw material nickel) is a silvery-white, very bright and tough metal and is mainly used in battery technology as cathode material. Since the development of the nickel-cadmium accumulator around 1899 it has really proved its worth in various different types of accumulators (for instance nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hybrid types).

Like practically all base and precious metals, the nickel price has in recent years also been affected by sometimes dramatic fluctuations that result from a complex interrelationship between different factors – for instance the strongly increasing demand from China and India, a general scarcity of raw materials, a producers' lack of flexibility in response to changed demand situations and speculative flight from investors in the raw materials markets.
