Renata SA was founded in 1952 as a company specialised in manufacturing mechanical components for wristwatches. At the end of the 1970s button cells were included in the product portfolio, later with a special focus on wristwatches. Today the company is one of the leading manufacturers of button cells for electronic equipment. Renata SA is a subsidiary of the Swatch Group Ltd. in Biel, Switzerland.
Renata is headquartered near Basel in Itingen, Switzerland; and research, development, production, quality assurance and marketing are also concentrated at this location. Renata's production plants are highly automated and cover the entire manufacturing process from monitoring and controlling the delivered raw material, punching the battery housings, right through to final control and delivery to final assembly. The plant produces more than one million cells per day: for instance silver-oxide batteries for wristwatches, zinc-air batteries for hearing aids, lithium button cells for telecommunication, medicine, PCs and other electronic equipment.
Renata products are sold via marketing centres in Switzerland, China, Germany, France and Singapore, and a sales network with around 100 branches is spread across every continent. Renata is certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/TS 16949.
